WASH PROGRAM

FORUD Uganda in partnership with SIMAVI, HEWASA,PROTOSE Conducted participatory baseline surveys’ on  integrated water resource management  in Lyamabwa parish Kisomoro Sub-County in Bunyangabu district, in Kyenjojo, we conducted the study in Mbale, Nyamanga and Kitega in Bufunjo, in Kamwenge, we conducted the water, hygiene and sanitation survey in Nyabani Sub-county and results showed the need for implementing an integrated water and sanitation project in areas.

The communities lacks safe and clean water.  In many parishes, only a limited number of protected water sources are found and the sparsely available water sources are either unprotected traditional wells, unprotected natural springs, contributing to a high incidence of water related diseases in the area most especially among women and children.

The baseline survey revealed that, because of the limited number of water points available, women spend a considerable time and energy fetching water, which gives negative impacts on their productivity.

There is lack of effective sanitation facilities in most homes.  In addition, poverty and lack of awareness about hygiene and sanitation issues are other considerable factors.  The communities have also not been empowered to involve themselves in preventive health care measures and activities.

Our core interventions are geared towards community sensitization towards having clean and safe water for the health wellbeing of the communities. Construction of water sources using different appropriate technologies using local resources within the communities.
